Confirmation Class
Wednesdays, 5:00 to 6:00 PM | Fellowship Hall | Grades 6 and Up
Confirmation class at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Joplin meets every Wednesday from 5:00 to 6:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall. Pastor Chris Ramstad leads it. The 2026-27 year begins Wednesday, September 9, 2026, and runs through Confirmation Day on Sunday, May 2, 2027.
What Students Study
Students work through the Bible and Luther’s Small Catechism — a short, plain summary of Christian teaching written in 1529 and still in use today. Over the year the class covers the Six Chief Parts of the Christian faith:
- The Ten Commandments
- The Apostles’ Creed
- The Lord’s Prayer
- The Sacrament of Holy Baptism
- Confession and Absolution
- The Sacrament of the Altar
There is memory work each week, done at home with a parent’s help. The full text of the Small Catechism is free to read at catechism.cph.org.

Common Questions
Do we need to be members of Immanuel? No. Families from the Joplin community are welcome, whether you belong to another church or to none at all. Start by talking with Pastor Chris.
What grade does my student need to be in? Sixth grade or above. There is no upper limit and no fixed grade. What matters is whether your student is ready.
Can I sit in? Yes. Parents are always welcome to attend class with their student.
What does my student bring? A three-ring binder with pockets, an English Standard Version (ESV) Bible, and a pen or pencil. The church provides a Small Catechism on the first day to anyone who needs one.
What happens if the weather is bad? If Martin Luther School is closed for the day, there is no Confirmation Class or Youth Group that evening. If it looks dangerous to drive later in the afternoon, please be safe rather than sorry.
Stay for Youth Night
Class lets out right as the Wednesday youth meal is served at 6:00. Confirmation students can stay on for youth night — a free meal, Bible study, and games for students in grades 5 through 12 — without a second trip across town. Friends are always welcome.
