The Power of God for Salvation, to Everyone Who Believes
based on Matthew 25-28 and Romans 1

Song — I Am a Pilgrim

Pastor: “I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, ‘The righteous shall live by faith.’” Romans 1:16–17

Prayer of the Day

Pastor: Let us pray.
People: Thank You, God, for bringing me into the Body of Christ, where I live by faith in the righteousness of my Savior, serving Him and my neighbors by the power of the Spirit. Thank you, too, for the gifts You give to those who have served me in many and various ways. Enlighten me with Your gifts, and empower me to be a living sacrifice, that I may humbly use my gifts to serve others; in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Reader 1: Paul identified himself as “a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures, concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 1: 1-4

Reader 2: “Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men.

Reader 3: “But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.”

Reader 4: “So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. Matthew 28: 1-9

Songs — Are You Washed in the Blood; Blessed Assurance

Reader 1: “While they were going, behold, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests all that had taken place.

Reader 2: “And when they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a sufficient sum of money to the soldiers and said, “Tell people, ‘His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ And if this comes to the governor’s ears, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.”

Reader 3: “They took the money and did as they were directed. And this story has been spread among the Jews to this day.” Matt. 28:11-15

Reader 4: “The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.

Reader 1: “For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.

Reader 2: “For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

Reader 3: “For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him,

Reader 4: “but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.” Romans 1:18-21

Song — I Love to Tell the Story

Reader 1: “Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted.

Reader 2: “And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

Reader 3: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.

Reader 4: “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:16-20

Sermon and Prayers

Blessing: Romans 15:13

Pastor: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”
