Sharing the Good News of Jesus in Joplin
Second Thursday of each month · 7:00 PM · Fellowship Hall
Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2616 S Connecticut Ave, Joplin, MO 64804
The Board of Evangelism helps the people of Immanuel Lutheran Church share the good news of Jesus with their neighbors. Evangelism simply means telling others the Gospel: that God forgives our sins and gives eternal life through Jesus Christ. At Immanuel that usually looks less like a sales pitch and more like a friend’s invitation, a warm welcome at the door, or a neighbor helped in a hard month.

What the Evangelism Board Does
Immanuel’s Constitution and Bylaws give the board a practical set of jobs:
- Welcome. The board chooses and supports the greeters and hosts who meet people at the doors each Sunday, so no one walks in unnoticed.
- Visit. When someone is thinking about making Immanuel their church home, the board arranges a visit to answer questions and get to know them.
- Equip. The board helps the pastor train members to share their faith and bring a friend to the adult instruction class, where newcomers learn what Christians believe. In August 2026 Immanuel served as the Missouri District’s pilot congregation for Every One His Witness, the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod’s evangelism training for everyday believers, and the board continues it on third Saturdays. Learn about the training and join in.
- Follow up. After events such as Vacation Bible School, the board reaches out to families and invites them back to worship.
- Care for neighbors. The board watches for the needs of the elderly, the sick and the poor, and administers the Helping Hand Fund, which is collected on the last Sunday of each month for neighbors in need.
- Get the word out. The board helps proclaim the Gospel and let Joplin know what is happening at Immanuel.
The Evangelism Board meeting is held once a month in the Fellowship Hall, and the board reports to the Church Council. The board is chaired by Kimberly Davis.
“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”

Common Questions
Is this a public event? It is a planning meeting for the board. If you are looking for a place to start at Immanuel, come to Sunday worship at 8:00 or 10:30 AM (one service at 9:00 AM, June through August). A greeter will meet you at the door. Everyone is welcome; you do not need to be a member.
I’d like to be a greeter, or help share the Gospel. Where do I start? Call the church office. The board would be glad to hear from you.
I’m thinking about joining Immanuel. Can someone talk with me? Yes. Call the church office and we will set up a visit or point you to the next adult instruction class.
