Table Talk is a men’s group in Joplin, hosted by the men of Immanuel Lutheran Church and open to any man in the community. Men of all ages are invited to come together over a good meal for honest conversation, mutual encouragement, and a closer look at the biblical truths of Luther’s Small Catechism.
What Is Table Talk, a Men’s Group in Joplin?
Table Talk gathers at 6:30 pm, generally on the last Tuesday of the month, at a local Joplin restaurant. It’s not a formal program or a structured class — it’s men sitting around a table, eating good food, and having real conversations about life, faith, and what it means to follow Jesus every day.
Each gathering focuses on one of the six chief parts of Luther’s Small Catechism — biblical truths in question-and-answer form, drawn from God’s living Word, the Bible: the Ten Commandments, the Apostles’ Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, Holy Baptism, Confession, and the Lord’s Supper. We wrestle with what these things actually look like for husbands, fathers, grandfathers, and workers today.

Luther’s Small Catechism is a collection of biblical truths — questions and answers drawn from God’s living Word, the Bible — covering the essentials of the Christian faith. At Table Talk, we open Scripture together and discover what God says about real life as men in the world today. These are not the words of a 16th-century reformer collecting dust on a shelf. Table Talk is for men of all ages — young and old, longtime members and first-time guests, lifelong Lutherans and men still figuring out what they believe. You don’t need to have the answers. You just need to show up.

Any man is welcome. This is a men’s group in Joplin for our congregation, for the wider community, and for anyone just visiting town. You don’t have to be a member of Immanuel Lutheran or even a Christian to come. All are welcome at the table.
Do I need to prepare or bring anything?
Just yourself — and maybe a friend. No preparation required. Everyone pays for their own meal. The conversation is the program.
