5th and 6th Grade Communication Arts

Week of October 25-29

Spelling - Unit 10          Test on Friday

Writing- The 5th and 6th grade students are getting really good at writing opinion essays. This week they are writing an opinion essay answering objectives the reader may have to their opinion. The essay will be eight paragraphs in length- introduction,a six paragraph body and a conclusion.

English-  Tuesday we are reviewing action, linking and helping verbs. Wednesday we will watch a short video about prepositions with a catchy tune that will stay in their brains for a long time. Thursday we will be able to identify the direct object in a prepositional phrase.

Literature- We finished Sarah Bishop on Friday and think the book ended too soon. We thought Sarah should marry Issac Morton. This week we wil read an excert  by Russel Freedman titled The Mysterious Mr. Lincoln. We will also do some resesarch on Abraham Lincoln.Some students could earn some extra credit if they do a presentation for the class.
