This week we will be working on learning the letter “d”. We will talk about the sound d makes and what d looks like. We will also be learning about pets and what kinds of homes and food they need as we complete our learning projects. We will be observing differences in the types of foods pets eat during a science project. We will also be talking about colors and matching. We will be enjoying a variety of centers during Center Time. We will be hunting for d’s in the sensory tub and using our fine motor skills to “feed” different animals in addition to our regular centers. You could work on reinforcing what we are learning this week by having your child hunt for letter d’s in books, on signs, or in the newspaper. A fun idea for continued practice in indentifying colors is to have your child help you with the laundry and discuss the colors of the items coming out of the dryer.
For pet week we are still using our veterinarian office. If your child has a stuffed dog, cat, bird, fish, etc. at home please send them in their backpacks all of this week (please label with your child’s name). This will give the students some “patients” to take care of in the vet’s office. This should be a lot of fun for the students and will provide many opportunities to expand their language and social skills. |
