This week we will be working on learning the letter “d”. We will talk about the sound d makes and what d looks like. We will also be learning about pets, how to take care of pets, and discussing differences as we complete our learning projects. We will be enjoying a variety of centers during Center Time. We will be hunting for d’s in the sensory tub and working with our mobile laptop unit in addition to our regular centers. Last week we worked on www.starfall.com for the first time and the children really enjoyed it! The Starfall website it a great tool for helping children learn their alphabet. You might want to work on reinforcing what we are learning this week by having your child think of items that begin with the sound d makes. Creating a list of d words with them will help your child see what words look like when they are written down. This is an important concept that will help them as they learn to read in the coming years.
For pet week we will turn our dramatic play area into a pet care and veterinarian office. If your child has a stuffed dog, cat, bird, fish, etc. at home please send them in their backpacks all of this week (please label with your child’s name). This will give the students some “patients” to take care of in the vet’s office. This should be a lot of fun for the students and will provide many opportunities to expand their language skills. |
